Our first day of filming started on Sunday. Chris, Brian and myself (The Tripod) arrived at our investment property at 9am to the complete TLC Property Ladder film crew.  We were quickly miked and sent infront of a camera to tell our story. Â
Around 12 o’clock Kirsten Kemp the shows host showed up and quickly started making us look like idiots. I dont want to spoil the show but the first 25 or 30 minutes of the show will be aweful (for us that is).Â
The Tripod makes me think you guys are setting up porn movies. maybe its just me…
what is a blog anyways? does it mean you post stuff and random people come by to comment on it? will you erase this? that would suck.
you guys are cute but its probably not her fault you looked like idiots.
muah!!!
Just finished watching the show and boy was I disappointed. What were you all thinking? Why did you not take her advice? Even I know that the risk you are taking has to be worth the return. Why would you spend 50k on a master suite to only make 10k??
Guys, you had such a great opportunity to do a quick flip but you let your greed get in the way.
I hope the house has sold already and you are able to take what you have learned and do it again - but better.
Good Luck on making your millions!!
[...] time and effort he and his buddies put in they should have recieved a much higher compensation. 1st day of filming « David Shanahan Back on track « David Shanahan Gaining momentum « David Shanahan 2nd week of construction [...]
Hey, I just saw your show. I would hate to break it to you, but Kristen gave didn’t make you guys look like idiots. You guys did a pretty good job of doing that to yourselves. You looked like you wre just dying to do that addition because it made the job more “exciting”. It was a bad idea in the beginning, and a terrible one after you found out about the water level in the back yard. The funny part is the fact that you guys still think you are going to become millionaires doing this.
Jeremy and Jon B. Your negativity is draining. I’m sure you wont see any success in your life with that attitude. Good luck in life!!!
Did you sell your house? If so, what was your true net profitafter total costs including carrying costs, real estate commissions and miscellaneous items?
Okay, anyone getting into the real estate flipping business in Jan. 2007 must be retarded. The chances of finding three people that stupid in any one place would seem infinitesimal, but The “Learning” Channel managed to do it.
PS, have you checked the foreclosure figures for Atlanta recently? Couldn’t find a nice condo to flip in Miami?
We are renting the house. We will sell once the real-estate market improves. Thanks for the comments and I’m glad you enjoyed the show.
Also, Master Shake, the real-estate market in Atlanta was great in January 2007. I realize it sucks now but it will improve over the next couple of years. Enjoy life on the couch.
Dave
Just saw your episode.
I’m now thinking - it would have been a boring flip had you all not tried to do the extension. Nothing else was disastrous enough to make it an interesting show… or maybe all of that got edited out?
What I’d like to know is, was the $50K extension a condition of your getting the shooting? Surely someone at TLC evaluates cases based on “showbidness value”… I’m just wondering if they knew that there was disaster potential before you guys insisted on forging ahead with the extension.
I know that most reality shows are made (or broken) in the editing process… they film a bunch, and then edit it up so that it looks good/dramatic. But, your decision to do the extension was just too over the top to an experienced flipper.
The “looks” everyone gives regarding the decisions are too funny. It’s one thing to give a dirty look about a choice of paint color or depth of a closet. But it’s another to give dirty looks about $50K extensions that are so risky. You guys hammed up your dirty looks “back” to her when she told you it was a mistake. I guess this is the “acted” part you refer to in one of your other posts about why you won’t do another reality show.
Speaking of looks, Kirsten is a good reason I watch the show! She’s not hard to look at
Love the show, but o my…
…I’m in love with KIrsten Kemp.
So bright ans so beautyfull!
“Around 12 o’clock Kirsten Kemp the shows host showed up and quickly started making us look like idiots.”
I would rather have Kirsten Kemp make me look like an idiot than most women treat me like a god. Yoinks but she is gorgeous. She can put me in my place anytime!
The show was repeated last night in my philadelphia market. It was a wonderful show. My first time seeing this episode. I was curious if the entire neighborhood suffered that issue and was there previous news disclosing those facts publically? If so, I would think the three young men should have been told this at closing.
My b/f and I will be doing this next year ourselves. Luckily he and I will do most of the trades ourselves. We would have never expected in a million years that the problem Tripod suffered on such a small lot, was even possible. I am sorry these men suffered this loss. It was a real eye opener for us! Good luck to them and thanks for such a GREAT SHOW!
