Although our episode of TLC’s Property Ladder has not aired yet, I’m 100% certain I’ll never do reality TV again. Here are a few reasons why the filming of Property Ladder was not worth the 15 minutes of fame:

  1. Long Hours - Hundreds of hours of filming for a one our episode.
  2. Very Poor Compensation - $1,000 split three ways and furniture staging for one month (about $1,500).
  3. A constant focus on the negative things that happen (and we had plenty).
  4. Snarky Host - Kirsten Kemp.
  5. Lack of Reality - Almost everything was reenacted or dramatized.

Although I must say it was quite an experience and something I’ll never forget. Should be a good laugh.

Maybe it was just my family but do you remember when having a soda was something special?  As a kid I got to have a soda after dinner or when we went out to eat (which wasnt every night).  Now it seems like you have a soda with almost every meal.  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - It doesnt matter.  A Coca Cola goes with everything, right?  Only in America.  Lets take a look at some of the more popular brands of soda and see how many grams of sugar are in each 12 oz can.

  • Sunkist Orange Soda -  52 grams of sugar
  • Fanta Orange Soda - 51.5 grams of sugar
  • Mountain Dew - 47 grams of sugar
  • Vanilla Coke - 42 grams of sugar
  • Dr. Pepper - 41 grams of sugar
  • Coca Cola Classic - 40.5 grams of sugar
  • Pepsi - 40 grams of sugar
  • Sprite - 39 grams of sugar

To put this in perspective:  A teaspoon of granulated sugar is equal to about 4 grams.  So the next time you slug down a 20 oz bottle of Orange Soda you are having about 20 teaspoons of sugar or about a half a cup of granulated sugar.

I wonder why Diabetes is on the rise in America?

I’ve been making the most of the weekends in July…

Two weekends ago I ventured down to Panama City, Florida.  Not the most glamorous place in the world but the beaches are nice and its cheap.  We had a crew of 4 couples and a single guy (thats me).  Good food, plenty of sun, refreshing drinks and an increadible amount of laughs made this trip one to remember.  The monday after the trip I couldnt figure out why my ab muscles hurt so bad - It was from laughing so much on the trip.

This past weekend I was lucky enough to go to the Airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  I went with Chandler, his father Larry, Charlie Sr. and Charlie Jr.  We took the King Air up to the show (which was amazing) and saw a rediculous amount of airplanes.

From the latest in composite aircraft to the old WWII P51 Mustangs - we saw it all.  It was a great show!  Now, more than ever I’m tempted to get my pilots license.

We have not been informed by TLC’s Property Ladder yet but I’m guessing that this is going to be our show.

 Who Killed The Electric Car?

Today I watched the documentary Who Killed The Electric Car?  I feel pretty strongly that every American should see it and form their own opinion about renewable energy and our modern society.  That being said here are my thoughts on the movie and the subject:

The topic of renewable energy keeps popping into my head.  I spend countless hours just thinking about new ideas or ways to improve our automobiles.  What has become so evident and frustrating to me after seeing this movie is that:  Unlike other problems in our society, we have the technology to fix the problem.

This has nothing to do with politics- so dont come up to me and try to debate Republican vs. Democrat.  This has nothing to do with Tree Huggers or Environmentalist.  It has everything to do with GREED and how switching from Oil will result in less profits.

The most disturbing thing to me is that I can purchase a device that makes phone calls, holds 20,000 songs, takes pictures and can browse the internet all in the palm of my hand yet I can only buy a vehicle that runs on oil (A technology since the turn of the 20th century).  Have you thought of why that is?????

This past weekend was the Bye Bye Buckhead party. All of the restaurants and bars sponsored this huge block party. Ben Carter Properties has purchased all of the land/buildings between Pharr Rd, Peachtree Rd and East Paces Ferry. Supposedly they paid 500 a sqr foot for the land, Ouch!! The skyline at my condo is really going to change here shortly. Two condos, a hotel, retail space and office space will be occupying the new “Streets of Buckhead“. Ben Carter’s plan is to make Buckhead into the “Rodeo Drive” of Atlanta. Should be interesting!

Its my 27th Birthday!!! Thanks to everyone for the phone calls and emails! Its much appreciated!!

Happy Birthday

We had our Open House on Saturday and our Final Day of Filming on Sunday.  The house was well recieved during the open house.  Some realtors thought the house was priced correctly while others thought the house should be priced about ten thousand less.  The realtors had a few suggestions and some negative comments about the house.   Mainly the closets need to be painted and the back yard landscaping need some work.  We are going to make those changes this next week.

The final day of filming with Kirsten Kemp from TLC’s Property Ladder went well.  She is a super nice person off camera but when you get her on camera she is what the film crew call “Snarky”.  You can guess what that means.  Either way, the show was fun and I cant wait to see the episode.  It should air sometime in September.

The pics below are of the finished house.  Let me know what you think.

Thank you Brian, Shawna, Mr. Spears, Andrew, Sam, Josh and Steven for all your hard work with the landscaping.   We laid new sod, trimmed bushes, planted flowers and covered the islands with red birch chips.  It looks amazing!

We have one week before our open house day of June 9.  We must install the bathroom vanity, finish the plumbing, bring in furniture from the staging company and clean the house.  Our last day of filming with Kirsten Kemp is on June 10th.   I’ll let you know when the show is going to air.

We paid $146,000 for the house, $88,000 for construction/loan and the asking price for the house is $299,900.  I’ll post a link to the listing and if anyone wants to stop by to see the house please let me know.
